New rules on Madeira trails from 2026: Complete reservation guide
From January 1, 2026, access to paid hiking trails in Madeira will require mandatory, prior reservation and ticket purchase. This applies to everyone – both tourists and residents. Lack of a ticket may result in a fine of €250.
This comprehensive step-by-step guide will walk you through the entire process on the official site SIMplifica – from creating an account to printing the ticket, based on personal screenshots from the mobile version of the user account.
A requirement for everyone: Reservation of a time slot and ticket is necessary for legal access to the trail. This also applies to children (exempt from fees, but must be included in the reservation).
The official and only place to purchase is the SIMplifica portal: https://simplifica.madeira.gov.pt/
Savings: By using a guide or travel agency, you pay only €3 for the trail instead of €4.50.
Multi-day tickets – attention! A 3- or 7-day ticket does NOT exempt from slot reservations and does NOT include trail PR1.
Proven instructions: The process below is current and verified for reservations from a mobile phone (the computer option looks similar).

Register in advance – create an account on SIMplifica at home, not on the day of the hike.
Have your ticket ready – in electronic form (preferably a screenshot) or printed. Checks can occur anywhere.
Consider a guide – If you plan several trails, a guided tour may provide not only knowledge but also savings on tickets.
Plan your arrival – be at the trailhead before your entry time. There may be a queue or poor reception on-site.
