MONTE , CR7 MUSEUM
However, the best of the ways to experience the city's lay of the land is undoubtedly a ride on the Funchal - Monte cable car. The tour starts from the old part in Funchal at Campo Almirante Reis and arrives in less than 15 minutes at the Monte station in Largodas Babosas. Thanks to this train you can get to Monte in a quick way, while admiring the surroundings, which resemble an amphitheater, the magnificent bird's eye view of the bay of Funchal and the valley will give you an unforgettable experience.
Being at the top of the city - Monte - it is worth walking through the Monte Palace Tropical Garden. The 70,000m2 garden, where its lush vegetation from all over the world allows us to experience tranquility in the shade of the garden, taste Madeira coffee and learn about the unique plants found there, including an area dedicated to the Laurissilva forest. Another place in this remarkable garden is the Mystical Gardens of the Orient, where you'll find various pagodas, Buddhist sculptures, red bridges and ponds where Koi fish and swans swim, and encounter flamingos that strut beautifully for tourists' lenses. Walking along a designated path through the garden, you can also visit the Museum of African Sculpture and experience an encounter with hundreds of fascinating minerals in an area called "Secrets of Mother Nature."
Monte is known for several more attractions, but the "sledge ride" from Monte down the stairs leading to the Nossa Senhora do Monte do Funchal Church, where the end of the route is in Livramento, Caminho do Monte 82/84, from where you have to take bus number 19 to the city center, is certainly the most crazy and original ride, through the narrow and winding streets to Funchal. Despite the passage of years and the development of urban transportation on the island, these sledges are still used today. Which attracts hundreds of tourists, every day, eager to take part in this 10-minute exciting descent for about 2 km in length, at sometimes high speeds of about 50 km/h. The sleigh is made of wood and wicker, has two seats, and slides on wooden skids and is pushed, and at the same time steered by ropes, by two Carreiros, men dressed in traditional white cotton attire, straw hat and rubber sole shoes that serve as brakes. The downhill route through the picturesque streets of Funchal is a great alternative and fun for everyone.
After such an exhilarating descent, it's time to even out the breath, enjoy the local ice cream and head down the city's main street along the waterfront to Funchal's most visited site to the CR7 Museum, or Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, located on Avenida Sá Carneiro - Praça do Mar No27. Where you can see all the trophies won by the best Portuguese player at the clubs he played for. Read the correspondence of fans from around the world, who not only write, but also draw and paint and send tributes to the five-time World's Best Football Player. At the museum, you can also interact with Ronaldo and have your picture taken as if you were by his side. The next step from the local market is to head to a nearby street - Rua de Santa Maria, where you can experience the Art of Painted Doors by local and foreign artists. The "Arte de portas abertas" project began in 2011, continues to this day, and thanks to it, the old town area has been reborn. The picturesque streets, annually attract thousands of tourists, as well as locals, to peruse the art and experience its gastronomic sensations and charming nightlife with a glass of wine.

FUNCHAL MADEIRA
